Best Games of December Review! (with video feedback)

Posted by FutureCopLGF - January 7th, 2021

Every month I see to review all of the games that were nominated as the Best of that month, which you can view in the link above!

As a game developer myself, I know how difficult it can be when you are starting out and how tricky it can be to tell how your game will be received by users. After all, you know how your game is meant to be played, and you can't just wipe that from your memory when you're building and testing it!

Therefore, I record myself playing all of the games for the first time for 10-15 minutes and try to voice how I'm feeling when I'm playing it, so that developers can see how a user might experience their game for the first time, especially for things like tutorials. I also try to provide some advice as well, but it might not always be the best: what I'm really hoping is that developers can draw their own conclusions on what might need work from how I stumble through their game.

Game Devs Reviewed: @picrossin @TwoPigs @pyrecraft @Kultisti @MagicWing @KJScott @Zoey-21 @Omael @HeadbanGames @VasantJ @HenrySanchezNG @Extar @joqlepecheur @MidNightMaren @studionokoi @Rob1221 @minibunnies @MrNannings @Dungeonation @krajzega @GoodL @milkbarjack @GeoKureli @molkman @FredericSouchu @Wandaboy @Starryman @drakeblue @EricDanneskjold @The-EXP

While all of these games were the best of the month...

MY PERSONAL ARBITRARILY-RANKED TOP 10 GAMES OF DECEMBER

My top 10 was (in sort-of ranked order and based on my own criteria which is some weird sense of 'memorability' for me personally and totally subject to genres I like though I try not to be too bias blah blah blah):

With honorable mentions to:

Cheers to all the game devs this month: even if you weren't listed above, I still love playing all of the games made (and hopefully, my bumbling can help make even better ones)!

thanks for this quick review and try to rate it as a game on its own.
(and yes, that’s fairly advanced pico8 stuff ?)

Cheers! And sorry for my weird existential crisis while trying to rate the game, haha: I really enjoyed it and was quite impressed when I went back to it and played some of the later levels that really escalate things and introduce some neat stuff like lava fields and such!

I haven't watched the whole video, might leave it running in the background while working this weekend, but from what I did see, it was really good! Thanks for the hard work.

Cheers! Had a lot of fun with Indestructotank despite my confusion with the premise: in the end, while I did think it was a little confusing at the start, I understand that it was an incredibly well-known game so a tutorial and such wasn't as necessary for the intended audience (or possible with the limited GB interface). And anyway, I felt it was way more unique and interesting than confusing, so kudos for the great concept: we need more crazy interesting ideas like this!

Thanks for the review as always, and just wanted to let you know that Elemental Tiles has an undo feature to avoid those accidental moves.

Cheers! Man, doing those sliding ice puzzles gave me flashbacks to Alundra back in the day. Oh, the nightmares those puzzles were...but thanks to this game, I feel better!

Thanks for the great review! It was such a blast watching that moment when you were talking to Daffodil and the dialogue system fully clicked. Appreciate you taking the time to put this together.

Cats on Mars was also a team favourite.

Cheers! I'm usually bias towards action-orientated games, but I love a game with really interesting and innovative mechanics, and this delivered well! Argh, but I've only been able to get up to 96% on the Dye Log tree: that last 4% continues to elude me! There must be another plant I can bro it up with more...

thx for review c:

No problem: it's a rather simple game, but it had a good visual style to it, along with a crazy escalation of difficulty that made it a blast to play, so cheers!

It's the first time somebody has ever reviewed something I've made, it's so cool!
Seeing somebody else play my creation was a fascinating experience.
Thanks for the review : )

Cheers! Hopefully it wasn't too frustrating to watch me play through the game, or more accurately, play through what little I could get through, haha. It's a toughie! Definitely tricky to get used to, but it was still very memorable in the end!

Thanks for the in-depth playthrough of my game (Ola! Tannenbaum). It was really helpful seeing you play and hearing your commentary. Thanks to you, I've got a couple of ideas for some improvements I can make :D
