Best Games of September Review! (with video feedback for devs)

Posted by FutureCopLGF - October 7th, 2020

Every month I see to review all of the games that were nominated as the Best of that month, which you can view in the link above!

As a game developer myself, I know how difficult it can be when you are starting out and how tricky it can be to tell how your game will be received by users. After all, you know how your game is meant to be played, and you can't just wipe that from your memory when you're building and testing it!

Therefore, I record myself playing all of the games for the first time for 10-15 minutes and try to voice how I'm feeling when I'm playing it, so that developers can see how a user might experience their game for the first time, especially for things like tutorials. I also try to provide some advice as well, but it might not always be the best: what I'm really hoping is that developers can draw their own conclusions on what might need work from how I stumble through their game.

Game Devs Reviewed: @Franuka @fullmetalchaz @gamemakertim @FluffyLotus @VasantJ @e1sif @thesteamknight @TheEnkian @anvhadrian @starBlinky @Omael @larrynachos @xinelu @MKMaffo @RunningZombie @Butzbo @Mig-Moog @Pastruvium @orange08 @CarsonKompon @NastyOldWizard @bokononyossarian

While all of these games were the best of the month...

MY PERSONAL ARBITRARILY-RANKED TOP 10 GAMES OF SEPTEMBER

My top 10 was (in no particular order and based on my own criteria which is some weird sense of 'memorability' for me personally and totally subject to genres I like though I try not to be too bias blah blah blah):

With some honorable mentions to:

Cheers to all the game devs this month: even if you weren't listed above, I still love playing all of the games made (and hopefully, my bumbling can help make even better ones)!

YOOOO thanks for reviewing my lil dressup game!
Your commentary def made me smile, im glad you enjoyed it despite not being your cup of tea, thanks a lot!! :D

Cheers for that! Had a lot more fun with the game than I expected, definitely thanks to the really stylish art!

Niice! Always fun to see someone play and live comment your game! Glad you liked it and it's great to hear your take on specific gameplay details while showing them in game, a lot of details to keep in mind if I get to an eventual update of the game, even the more subtle things such as your comments about menu buttons!

Also, I don't know if I wrote this somewhere, but the odd name is because the word 'Llamas' in spanish (my primary language) also means 'Flames', so while a bit confusing for non-spanish folks, it was just tempting to use, hahah!

You know, I don't know if I ever said it, but I was definitely curious after playing as to why the title was like that since I didn't remember fighting any other llamas, haha! And yeah, I always hope that the video can help showcase some of the more difficult to express issues, like stuff with the hitboxes and such. Cheers for the game!

:D Yay!

Thx for (all)the reviews! I'm glad you like it =)

And I must say... no it was not a little lazy it was SUPER lazy XD but at least ppl seems to enjoy it.

:) Basically I will slow down the 2D/Platform Chat Fonce games for now.

BTW Islander was my favorite for this month I hope they win!

Haha, well, asset reuse is perfectly fine in most cases when its a fun game in the end: shame that a lot of people like to demonize it when they are perfectly good reasons for reuse. I did like Islander a lot as well, and look forward to seeing what you come up with next (and wouldn't mind a new Chat Fonce game if you really feel like it)!

Thanks for the review ^_^ I was praying you would pick a different character other than the ghosts, the later characters have way better stats! Cool to see someone play the game though, thanks for that!

Doh! I should've figured that would be the case, but I didn't realize because I was so addicted to my cute little ghostie, haha! Oh well, I like a challenge, and thanks for the game!

Almost 5 hours long?! That's awesome, thanks for taking the time and effort to help the community :)

@xinelu I'm really happy to see so many people enjoyed Islander! Especially considering the fact that I made it in only 5 days :0

Haha, I try not to let it affect my judgment (or my own relaxed approach to game dev), but yeah, it's really crazy and impressive that so many entries are made so quickly: jealous of those skillz!

Man what an awesome initiative. :) I remember some French guy years back was trying to play every single game on NG, and upload a short YT review for each one, not sure how that went though...

Unfortunately no time for a five hour video but I love that there is one here. :D Good to know where to go whenever I need to know what I really need to play.

Cheers! Yeah, the videos aren't exactly watchable by the public with a time length in the hours, haha: I make 'em with timestamps so that game devs can skip right to the good stuff, being to their game to see how it was played. Glad you liked it nonetheless!

I definitely would love to not only play every single game but complete them fully for a comprehensive review, but that would be biting off way more than I could chew. I do feel bad when a game slips through the cracks but I gotta keep my sanity.

I did short highlight videos a while back that were more watchable by the public, but they took a bunch of time to make and I've got so many projects going on that I gave up and just do the raw feedback videos instead: maybe if I get better at editing and such I'll bring 'em back but not for now.

@CarsonKompon I made my first Chat Fonce game in 16 hours hahaha so don't worry! Not all games take 5 years to be made :D

Ah nice, useful structure then. Till the day I make a game that gets included in one of these then. ;)

Indeed, there's just too much here to ever even dream of being able to partake in, I lived in denial for the longest time, plotted to review every single thing that came through the Portal, comment on every single post, read every single thread... alas, eventually you just have to accept your limitations. ;) Even if you're not a completionist maniac like me there's bound to be plenty of gems that slip by even with just the one format too. We're getting crazy active lately.

This is really a solid structure for something like this. Not an endless stream of sub-par submissions to go through this way either, and hopefully all of us who vote do a decent job in first getting the games that are really worth it to get the trophies they need to get nominated for this selection that you then go through...

Maybe some devoted fan could pick up that highlight habit hmm...
